In Mockingjay, Katniss Everdeen becomes the reluctant symbol of the rebellion against the Capitol, known as the "Mockingjay," while a civil war rages across Panem. She participates in propaganda videos for the rebel cause, but her efforts are complicated by the Capitol's capture and "hijacking" of Peeta, which causes him to attack her upon his rescue. As the war culminates in a final assault on the Capitol, a tragedy occurs when bombs kill Katniss's sister, Prim, and other medics, a bombing Katniss realizes was orchestrated by rebel leader President Coin, not President Snow. In a final act of defiance, Katniss assassinates Coin instead of the captured Snow, eventually leading to the end of the war, her acquittal, and a return to a more peaceful life with Peeta and their children.
