In "The Mark of the Dragonfly," orphan Piper, a resourceful girl living in a scrap town on the world of Solace, finds a mysterious girl named Anna with a dragonfly tattoo, a symbol of royal protection in the Dragonfly Territories. Piper decides to help Anna, who has amnesia, travel to the Dragonfly Territories to discover her identity and escape a dangerous man pursuing her. Their journey leads them on a perilous adventure aboard a freight train, where they encounter challenges from bandits, slavers, and the train's security guard, Gee. Ultimately, Piper and Anna's bravery and ingenuity lead them to discover Anna's true identity, reveal a conspiracy, and find a place for themselves on the train's crew.
